House hearing on two Michigan land claim bills

The House Natural Resources Committee is holding a hearing this Wednesday on two land claim bills.

The bills on the agenda are:
H.R.2176, to settle certain land claims of the Bay Mills Indian Community.
H.R.4115, to settle certain land claims of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
The Bay Mills bill settles the tribe's claim to lands at Charlotte Beach. The tribe would be allowed to open an off-reservation casino in Romulus.

The Sault Ste. Marie also settles a claim at Charlotte Beach. It authorizes an off-reservation casino in either Romulus, Flint or southern Monroe County.

The hearing takes place at 2pm in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building.
