Oklahoma bill allows tribes to charter schools

An Oklahoma Senate committee approved a bill that allows tribes to sponsor charter schools.

Sen. Glenn Coffee, a Republican, says tribes are interested in charter schools. Cherokee Nation Chief Chad Smith said the tribe wants to start a school focused on the Cherokee language.

The state law that authorized charter schools is facing a legal challenge.
