Winnemem Wintu Tribe wins backing for recognition
A bill making its way through the California Legislature supports federal recognition for the Winnemem Wintu Tribe.

Assembly Joint Resolution 39 passed the Assembly in April. A Senate committee approved the bill on Tuesday and it should reach the floor by August, The Chico Enterprise-Record reported.

The tribe has been identified in federal laws but has never been on the list of recognized entities.
