Crow veteran honored for World War II service

Joe Medicine Crow, the oldest living veteran of the Crow Tribe of Montana, was honored by the United States and France for his service in World War II.

Medicine Crow, 94, received the Bronze Star with valor from the U.S. Army and was made a knight of the French Legion of Honor. The French award is the highest distinction in France.

Medicine Crow fought in France, German and throughout Europe during the war. He counted coup four times and was made a warrior chief upon his return to Crow country.

Medicine Crow's great-great-grandfather was a French citizen who married a Crow woman.
