Lakota man killed in accident in Pennsylvania

Ivern Broken Nose, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, was killed in a road accident in Pennsylvania on Monday. He was 44.

Broken Nose, who was from Pine Ridge, ran out of gas in Tobyhanna. As he was walking along the road to wait for his wife, he was accidentally struck by another motorist. His wife, Judith Broken Nose, arrived on the scene shortly afterwards.

Broken Nose was active in Indian issues in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He welcomed opportunities to teach others about Lakota culture and history.
