Blackfeet Nation reaches water deal with state

The Blackfeet Nation has reached a water rights agreement with the state of Montana.

The deal allows the tribe to draw more water the St. Mary, Two Medicine and Milk rivers. The tribe would receive $14.5 million to defer water from the Birch Creek for 25 years.

The agreement needs ratification by tribal members, the state Legislature and the U.S. Congress.
