Little River Band members protest tribal council

Members of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians of Michigan held a protest outside tribal headquarters on Wednesday.

The group accused the tribal council of overstepping its authority and usurping the powers of the ogema, or chief. They cited investigations the tribal council has started of fishing operations and of two publications owned by tribal members.

The tribal government has undergone turmoil in recent years, with repeated attempts at removing the ogema.
