A grand opening ceremony on Thursday celebrated the first Indian-owned bank in the state of North Dakota.
Turtle Mountain State Bank is located in Belcourt, on the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation.
It's the first privately-owned bank to be located on a reservation.
"To have a financial institution in the heart of the community will have a major economic impact for the people of the Turtle Mountains," said James Laducer, one of the bank's shareholders.
Sen. Kent Conrad (D-North Dakota) and Gov. John Hoeven (R) attended the grand opening.
