Penobscot Nation provides teacher training
The Penobscot Nation is helping teachers in Maine implement tribal history and culture into the classroom.

In 2001, the Legislature passed a law to require public schools to include tribes in the curriculum. The state's standardized test -- Maine Learning Results -- was revised last year to reflect Indian history and culture.

In partnership with the state and educational institutions, the tribe is hosting teacher workshops on the Indian Island reservation. Other tribes are also taking part in the Wabanaki Studies Commission.
