Alaska Native corporation threatens suit

Doyon Limited, an Alaska Native regional corporation, is threatening to sue a group of shareholders over the use of the word "Doyon."

Doyon says the group Friends of Doyon might be a trademark violation. The corporation also filed a complaint with the state Division of Banking and Securities.

Mitch Demientieff, a Doyon shareholder who helped form the group, says "Doyon" means chief in the Athabascan language. He says the word can't be copyrighted.
