Nisqually Tribe pays tribute to Chief Leschi

Hundreds of members of the Nisqually Tribe of Washington paid tribute to Chief Leschi and his half-brother Quiemuth.

Chief Leschi led a rebellion in the late 1800s to protest the tribe's treatment under the 1854 Medicine Creek Treaty. He was later arrested and executed for a murder he didn't commit. Quiemuth was killed while in protective custody.

The tribe held full day of events for the first “Honor & Celebration of Brothers" ceremony. Elders and youth took part in paying tribute to their ancestors.
