Chippewa Cree Tribe's anti-slander law protested

Members of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Montana are protesting a new anti-slander law that could result in offenders losing their property and being kicked off the Rocky Boy Reservation.

Tribal members are circulating a petition to rescind the law. They said it violates their cultural rights and the tribe's constitution.

The law makes it a crime to slander a tribal council member of a tribal employee. Offenders could have their property seized or could be expelled from the tribe permanently.
