Bois Forte Band re-elects Leecy as chairman

Voters of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa Indians of Minnesota re-elected Kevin Leecy as chairman on Tuesday.

Despite three other challengers, Leecy won 52 percent of the vote in a primary. Under Chippewa law, that means he doesn't have to compete in a general election.

The vote makes Leecy the second person in Minnesota Chippewa history to win re-election during a primary. White Earth Chairwoman Erma Vizenor won 66 percent of the vote on Tuesday after facing six challengers.
