The state of Oklahoma won't agree to lower the tobacco tax rate for the Cherokee Nation, The Muskogee Phoenix reports. The tribe's compact calls for a tax of 86 cents per pack. But the tribe believes it is entitled to a flat 25 percent rate, the same as the one for the Kaw Nation. That would lower the tax to about 26 cents per pack. Last month, the Cherokees were found to be violating the compact by selling cigarettes with improper tax stamps. The Tulsa World surveyed retailers and found only one that appeared to violating the agreement. Get the Story:
