Bois Forte Band removes council member

A council member for the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa in Minnesota has been removed from office and could face federal charges, tribal leaders said.

District I Representative Mark Drift was censured this month for misusing a tribal credit card. He was censured last year for creating a hostile environment.

The incidents triggered a petition to remove Drift. At a special meeting last Friday, tribal council members voted to remove him from office.

Chairman Kevin Leecy said the Bureau of Indian Affairs is investigating Drift.
