Colorado passes resolution on Indian genocide

The Colorado Legislature passed a resolution on Wednesday that recognizes the genocide of American Indians at the hands of European settlers.

The nonbinding measure passed 22-12 in the Senate and 59-4 in the House. Some Republicans complained that it blamed all Europeans for the massacres and deaths of Indian people.

The resolution cites the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre in Colorado and the Trail of Tears as some of the "hardships" suffered by American Indians.
