Judge allows discrimination lawsuit against school

A federal judge says Indian families can sue the Del Norte County Unified School District in California for alleged discrimination.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California says the school district discriminated against Indians by closing grades six through eight at Margaret Keating School. The school is located on the Yurok Reservation, the majority of students are Indian and offers Yurok language classes.

The parents filed a complaint with the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, which sided with the families.
