Bar near sacred Bear Butte wins liquor license again
Commissioners in Meade County, South Dakota, approved a liquor license for a controversial bar near the sacred Bear Butte.

The Broken Spoke Campground was awarded a license in 2006 despite complaints from tribal members and local ranchers. The county revoked the license in 2007 due to unsettled debts by owner Jay Allen, who originally wanted to call the bar "Sacred Ground."

A court ordered the county to reconsider due to a proposed change in ownership. Allen is selling a majority interest in the bar to a company that has performed U.S. contracting work in Afghanistan.

After lengthy testimony on both sides of the issue, commissioners voted 3-2 to award the license.
