Crow couple sues BIA over grazing leases

A couple on the Crow Reservation is suing the Bureau of Indian Affairs over disputed grazing leases.

George and Nelvette Siemion thought they leased the land to graze their bison. But it turned out that the land was leased to someone else.

As a result, the BIA rounded up more than 150 of the couple's bison. Some of the younger calves died and the couple says it will have to get rid of the herd without the leases.

Nelvette Siemion believes she should have been given preference for the leases as a member of the Crow Tribe. The BIA says, general, leasing matters are up to the tribe.
