BIA unable to resolve San Pasqual leadership feud
The Bureau of Indian Affairshas been unable to resolve a leadership dispute within the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians in California.

Rival groups are fighting over the pending disenrollment of about 80 people. Neither side can agree who is in control and the BIA hasn't been able to mediate a solution.

As a result, superintendent James Fletcher said in a letter that the BIA doesn't recognize any governing body of the tribe. That could have an effect on the tribe's gaming operation and other entities.

Enrollment matters are normally handled internally but the BIA claims authority over the San Pasqual Band through the Indian Reorganization Act.
