Cowlitz Tribe helps members get back on track
The Cowlitz Tribe of Washington is operating the first tribal vocational rehabilitation program to win accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

The tribe started the program four years ago with a $1.3 million, five-year federal grant. Of 230 clients, 142 have found jobs.

“I chose to be the one to break the cycle, so my children do not grow up being alcoholics and addicts,” Cherie Parks, a tribal member, told The Longview Daily News. Parks recovered from drug addiction and a serious car accident.

The program is open to all Native Americans in the area.
