Indian county sheriff faces recall election
The Indian sheriff in Big Horn County, Montana, faces a recall election after residents gathered enough signatures to put the issue on an upcoming ballot.

Lawrence "Pete" Big Hair, a member of the Crow Tribe, was elected in November 2006. The recall petition accuses him of being incompetent, of hiring unqualified people and of breaking a code of ethics.

Big Hair is under investigation by the Montana Department of Justice, The Billings Gazette reported. He was arrested on domestic violence charges in Crow tribal court in June.

An Indian sheriff in North Dakota was removed from office in July.
