Members of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa are debating the use of banishment to combat violence on the reservation.
A recent drive-by shooting prompted discussion of the issue. Supporters say tribal members who get involved with gangs and drugs should face banishment or denial of tribal services.
The tribe currently does not have a banishment law but has evicted people from tribal housing.
