Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken campaigned on the Leech Lake, Red Lake and White Earth reservations on Saturday.

The well-known humorist told tribal leaders and members that he would seek seats on the Senate Indian Affairs Committee and the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee if elected. He said Native Americans “are the most represented peoples in the military," The Bemidji Pioneer reported.

The trip wasn't Franken's first visit to Indian Country. He's been to all three reservations multiple times throughout his campaign, something Sen. Norm Coleman (R) (campaign site) hasn't done during the race.

“Where is Norm Coleman?” Leech Lake Chairman LaRose said in introducing Franken, the Pioneer reported. “He hasn’t come to see us and to my knowledge he hasn’t been up to see our relatives at White Earth or Red Lake."

Polls show Franken slightly ahead of Coleman.
