Navajo activists keep up fight against power plant
Navajo activists will hold their second-annual prayer ceremony to oppose a major power plant on the reservation.

Dooda Desert Rock plans to meet November 8-11 near the site of the $3 billion Desert Rock Energy Project in Shiprock, New Mexico. "Dooda" means "No" in the Navajo language.

"We will be blessing Mother Earth and lifting our spirits up to continue fighting against Desert Rock," Elouise Brown, the group's president, told The Farmington Daily Times.

The Navajo Nation signed a deal with Sithe Global Power for the coal-fired power plant. The tribe will receive a cut of revenues.

The Environmental Protection Agency approved an air permit for the project in August, after a lengthy review process. The state of New Mexico, along with environmental groups like Dine Citizens Against Ruining our Environment, are challenging the decision.
