Illegal Mashpee Wampanoag donations traced
The Cape Cod Times tracked down the recipients of the illegal campaign contributions made by leaders of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts.

Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) received $5,700, Rep. William Delahunt (D-Massachusetts) received $6,000 and former Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California) received $20,000, the paper said. The amounts were found in court papers involving Glen Marshall, the former chairman of the tribe.

The contributions were illegal because Marshall reimbursed himself and other tribal leaders from funds paid to the tribe's corporations. Federal law prohibits campaign contributions from corporations so Marshall had to "disguise" them, according to a court document.

Kennedy is donating the funds he received to charity while Delahunt is still reviewing the matter. Pombo couldn't be reached for comment.
