A New Mexico attorney who is charged with the death of a San Felipe Pueblo man wants his trial moved, citing media coverage of the high-profile incident.

A fair trial for Carlos William Fierro "will be impossible" in Santa Fe County, his lawyers said. They want the case to be heard in nearby Rio Arriba County.

Rio Arriba County has a higher percentage of Native Americans than Santa Fe County and is home to five Pueblos and the Jicarilla Apache Nation. Fierro's attorneys are citing another DUI case, involving a Native driver, who was convicted only after being tried in a county with fewer Native Americans.

Fierro, who is Hispanic, is charged with vehicular homicide and causing an accident involving death. Prosecutors say he was driving drunk when he struck and killed William Tenorio on November 26, 2008.
