School ends separate Lakota language class
The Sioux Falls School District in South Dakota will no longer offer a separate Lakota language class.

Paulette High Elk taught the language daily to high school students. She's being consolidated into the district's existing Native American Connection classes for high school and middle school students.

"It was a way ... with one person on staff, to spread her across more schools," Gail Swenson, the Indian education coordinator for the district, told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader.
