Dorgan readies 'streamlined' version of IHCIA
Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota) will introduce a new version of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act this week, a top aide said on Monday.

Dorgan has developed a "streamlined" version of the bill, according to Allison Binney, the majority staff director for the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. The new version contains only the provisions that tribes have identified as top priorities, she said at the National Congress of American Indians annual convention in Palm Springs, California.

Dorgan will try to attach the bill to other pieces of legislation in order to get it passed, Binney said. He also expects to introduce other Indian health care bills during the 111th Congress to address issues not covered by the streamlined IHCIA.

The bill will be introduced today or tomorrow, Binney predicted.
