A former Capitol Hill staffer who is charged in the drunk driving death of a Pueblo man has been released and is once again working in Washington, D.C., The Santa Fe New Mexican reports.

Carlos Fierro is charged with vehicular homicide and causing an accident involving death. Police say he was driving drunk when he hit and killed William Tenorio, 46, of San Felipe Pueblo on November 26, 2008.

Fierro fled the scene after the accident, which generated significant media coverage in New Mexico. But Tenorio's family wasn't told that Fierro was being released from electronic monitoring.

"They're shocked and concerned ... that they weren't aware of it," Stephanie Poston, a family spokesperson, told the paper. "They want to be engaged in the whole process."
