Dorgan releases draft of tribal transportation bill
Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota), the chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, released a draft version of the Transportation Reauthorization of Indian Programs (TRIP) Act.

The bill reauthorizes Indian highway programs that are part of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act, a Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). The law expired on September 30, 2009.

The draft lists proposed funding amounts for Indian highway programs. It authorizes self-determination agreements for tribes to manage transportation programs.

The bill is likely to be wrapped into a larger transportation measure that will be considered by Congress.
