Blackfeet Nation to develop enhanced ID cards
The Blackfeet Nation of Montana will be developing an enhanced identification card so tribal members can use it to cross the U.S.-Canada border.

The tribe hopes to secure federal funds for the project. Enhanced IDs are needed as part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, which went into effect June 1.

For now, tribal members can continue to use tribal ID cards at the border. The Department of Homeland Security said it will notify the National Congress of American Indians when passports or other compliant documents will be required.
