Cherokee Nation offers help with foreclosures
The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma says homeowners can take advantage of new federal regulations aimed at preventing foreclosures.

The Cherokee Nation Mortgage Assistance Program encourages homeowners who are delinquent or in danger of becoming delinquent to develop a plan. In some cases, loan terms can be modified under the new regulations.

"The sooner a homeowner contacts us, the more options they may have," Shay Smith, the acting director of the Cherokee Nation’s Small Business Assistance Center, said.

Of the top five delinquent counties in Oklahoma, three are within the Cherokee Nation 14-county area.
