Exxon won't fight interest ruling in oil spill case
Exxon Mobil Corp. won't appeal a decision to pay interest in the lawsuit over the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said the company owed $507.5 million in damages plus interest, starting in 1996. The total award will come to about $1 billion.

Alaska Natives will only get a small portion of the award. According to The Anchorage Daily News, villages and corporations are entitled to 4.6 percent of the judgment.
