Editorial: Solar power a promise for Navajo Nation
"There is a great concern regarding the longterm future of the country's energy sources. Fossil fuels, such as oil, coal and natural gas, are finite resources.

On a more local scale, there is the entirely different problem of how to bring better utility service to the remote Navajo Nation for those who desire it.

Progress has occurred, particularly with the construction of a new pipeline that will bring running water to many for the first time. But there is still much that needs to be done.

How fortunate then, that these great and small concerns might find a measure of satisfaction in a grant by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Under the grant, a Navajo company called Sacred Power will provide solar power systems for 25 of the 18,000 homes on the Navajo Nation that have no electricity."
