Ute Mountain Ute Tribe combats substance abuse
The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe of Colorado is turning to its traditions to combat alcohol and drug abuse on the reservation.

The tribe's Drug and Alcohol Services built a sweat lodge to help people get sober. Counselor Katheryn Jacket said traditional methods work better with tribal members.

"We need to go back to traditional methods and ways of healing," Jacket told The Durango Herald. "The European way of doing therapy work has failed Native people."

The reservation is dry but Jacket said the tribe should implement more laws to address alcohol abuse.
