Choctaw council member denies election claim
An incumbent Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians council member denied any wrongdoing over an incident that led the tribe to schedule a new election.

Tony Martin represents the Tucker community. Election officials said a minor wearing a t-shirt that advertised his candidacy entered a polling place in violation of tribal law.

"It was not my actions that brought about the need for a new election. It is inaccurate, and furthermore it is disappointing that I should have to submit the facts instead of tribal staff whose job it is to present accurate information to the community," Martin told The Neshoba Democrat.

The new election is set for August 25. Voters in another community are also going to the polls over another violation of tribal law.
