Program helps Navajo workers enter energy field
A group of Navajo Nation men and women are starting a 10-week pre-apprenticeship program in hopes of landing jobs in the energy industry.

The program will prepare the 20 participants to work at power plants on the reservation. "The idea is to have trainees value this program, to have them develop discipline and work habits," Albert Shirley, a spokesperson for the Diné Power Authority, told The Farmington Daily Times.

Two power plants are located on the reservation. The tribe hopes to build another one, known as Desert Rock, in New Mexico.
