Company agrees to clean Navajo uranium site
The Environmental Protection Agency reached an agreement to clean a uranium site on the Navajo Nation.

United Nuclear Corp. and its parent company, General Electric Co., agreed to remove contaminated soil from a site near the abandoned Northeast Church Rock Mine in New Mexico. UNC agreed to pay up to $1.5 million, though the project is expected to cost $5 million.

"This cleanup will protect human health and the environment," Keith Takata, a Superfund director for the EPA, told the Associated Press.

The EPA and the Navajo Nation are working together to identify and clean contaminated sites on the reservation.
