Insurance dispute for home on burial mound
Finance and Commerce reports on an insurance dispute involving a Minnesota couple whose home is located on an Indian burial mound.

The couple said Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation failed to inform them about the mound. As a result, they are unable to make improvements or repairs on the home without approval from the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council.

The company said it wasn't responsible for the oversight and that its insurance policy didn't cover the mound. But Hennepin County District Court Judge Ann Alton disagreed and said Lawyers Title should have known about the mound because it is a matter of public record.

Alton awarded the couple $250,000 for the diminished value of the property.
