Museum opens Native cancer survivors exhibit

A new exhibit at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center in Connecticut features Native cancer survivors.

"Strength and Courage: Stories of Native American Cancer Survivors" appears to be the first of its kind. It features interviews of eight Native survivors and their families.

"With the belief that documenting the cancer journey can be beneficial for cancer survivors, their families and the next generations, we embarked on collecting cancer stories from Native Americans," Kimberly Hatcher-White, the museum's executive director, told The New London Day.

The museum expects to add photos and other information as the archive grows.
