A federal judge said he needs more time to consider a sentence for a member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut who was convicted of fraud.
Christopher M. Pearson was found guilty of eight counts of wire fraud. Prosecutors said he defrauded people out of $280,000 by telling them they were investing in an official tribal development project.
Pearson faces 70 to 87 months in federal prison, The New London Day reported. But Judge Robert N. Chatigny said prosecutors haven't given him enough information to decide on a sentence.
The tribe banished Pearson from the reservation.
