A 12-year-old Native boy in Manitoba remains in a vegetative state after undergoing a routine tonsil surgery.
Dylan Campbell underwent the surgery in November. His family rushed him back to the hospital a few days later because he was coughing up blood. He suffered a cardiac arrest and was placed on life support.
Dylan's family says staff at the Winnipeg Children's Hospital wasn't as responsive as they could have been. The family has met with Health Minister Theresa Oswald to discuss the case.
"This is a great tragedy," Grand Chief Morris Swan Shannacappo, of the Southern Chiefs Organization, told The Winnipeg Free Pres. "Something as simple as an operation to get your tonsils removed and then to be non-responsive to giving care is totally unacceptable.
