More than $250,000 has been raised to help the Cheyenne Rive Sioux Tribe of South Dakota recover from a severe winter storm.

The South Dakota Community Foundation saw about $8,000 in donations to its fund as of Tuesday. But after MSNBC pundit Keith Olbermann complained about the lack of attention to the tribe's crisis, the money poured in.

About 14,000 people lost electricity and many went without water for over a week. Power has been restored to most of the reservation and the tribe will use the money to fix homes, install generators and buy supplies and other goods.

"It's definitely been a roller coaster ride. We're still in recovery at this point,"Chairman Joseph Brings Plenty told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader. "But I really appreciate all the people who have stepped in. It's amazing. It actually started coming before any federal relief came in."
