The Oklahoma Tax Commission seized 77 cases of cigarettes that were on their way to smoke shops on the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

The commission says the retailers were selling the cigarettes without state tax stamps. The product was valued at $103,000, according to a search warrant.

The state has been trying to force the tribe into signing a tobacco compact. The tribe has a lawsuit pending in federal court over the issue and said it asked tribal-licensed retailers to stop selling a certain brand of cigarettes.

But The Tulsa World said it was able to buy the cigarettes at three smoke shops.
