Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico put 75 people to work with funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The tribe received a $11 million loan and $200,000 grant from the Department of Agriculture. The money is being used to build a community center that's due to be completed in July.
“It's hard to see how the dollars are being spent when you're stuck in Washington,” USDA Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan said, The Cibola Beacon reported. “I am here to see how recovery act dollars are being spent.”
The center will house the tribal council, support offices, a gymnasium and a wellness center.
