Teach For America aims to boost number of Indian teachers
Teach For America is seeking to boost the number of American Indian and Alaska Native teachers.

The group is on track to place a record 24 Indian teachers in schools next year. That's double the number placed this year.

"When a student is able to see a bit of themselves in the teacher ... it's just a different level of connection," senior recruitment director Patrick Herrel told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader.

Most of the recruits don't end up in reservation schools so the group is hoping to change that in future years.
