Northern Cheyenne Tribe celebrates first West Point graduate
Micah Highwalking is the first member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Highwalking, 23, was one of only five Indian graduates from the school. She gave her full-dress jacket and “tar bucket” parade hat to the tribe for its warriors’ collection and she was honored with an honor song, a flag song and the chief’s song.

“They are the highest honors of our tribe,” Highwalking told The Billings Gazette. “Then they gave me a satin star quilt.”

Highwalking earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology with a minor in systems engineering. She will spend at least eight years in the Army.
