Tribal spiritual leaders oppose solar energy plant at sacred site
Two tribal spiritual leaders joined a protest against a proposed solar energy plant at a sacred site in California.

Phillip Smith, an elder from the Colorado River Indian Tribes, and Rev. Ron Van Fleet of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe said the project threatens prayer places in the Mojave Desert. They are also worried about the impact on medicinal plants and endangered species.

BrightSource Energy expects to break ground next month on what will be the world's largest system of mirrors, or heliostats, The Las Vegas Review Journal reported. The project has apparently won approval from the federal government and the state of California.
