Judge delays hearing over Mishewal Wappo recognition
For the second time, judge has delayed a hearing in the federal recognition lawsuit of the Mishewal Wappo Tribe of California.

A status conference that was scheduled for Monday was pushed back to June 14. The repeated delays could indicate settlement talks between the tribe and the Interior Department.

The tribe was terminated by an act of Congress in 1959. The lawsuit claims the federal government failed to abide by the law.

Officials in Sonoma County, Napa County and Lake County are seeking to intervene. They are worried the lawsuit could lead to lands being taken into trust for the tribe.
